Keyhole surgery & spays
Laparoscopic surgery, also known as keyhole surgery is minimally invasive with a much faster recovery time. That’s why Nurture chooses to use this technique where possible with our patients.
At Nurture, your pet will receive the best medical care from a team who put pets first. We are proud to be the only vets in Wells and Weston-super-Mare offering this advanced laparoscopic procedure.

Keyhole spays for dogs
At Nurture, we want the spay procedure to be as painless as possible for your female dog, so we offer keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery as an alternative to the traditional spay. Laparoscopic spaying is quicker and is minimally invasive, therefore results in less post-operative discomfort and a faster recovery. At Nurture, we recommend the optimal time for spaying is 3 months after the first season. However, this can differ for some dogs and breeds and we can spay earlier or later than this as required. Book an appointment to discuss keyhole spay procedures with our team.
Why choose a Keyhole spay or laparoscopic procedure?
Laparoscopic surgery offers many advantages over traditional ‘open’ surgical techniques. These include:
- Increased safety due to magnification of tissues
- Faster surgical times
- Less internal trauma, particularly during the spay procedure
- Smaller wounds, resulting in reduced risk of wound breakdown & infection
- Reduced patient discomfort post-operatively
- Less scarring
- Faster healing & recovery
Other minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures
Nurture also offers other surgeries that can be performed laparoscopically. These services include:
- Biopsies from organs in the abdomen or chest
- Prophylactic laparoscopic assisted gastropexy – to prevent twisted stomach (GDV – Gastric Dilation and Volvulus) in ‘at-risk’ dogs
- Retained testicle removal for abdominal testicles
If you have any questions about our laparoscopy service in Wells or Weston-super-Mare, our team will be happy to help.
