Puppyhood: Up to 1 year
As pet owners ourselves, we know the best start to life is vital. This first year is key in establishing a healthy and intuitive companion who will be by your side for many years to come.
Regular weight checks
Scheduling a weight check for your puppy is like investing in their long-term health and happiness. Regular check-ups allow us to ensure your puppy is growing at a healthy pace, tailor their diet for optimal wellbeing, and catch any concerns early on. It’s a simple step towards a lifetime of vitality, ensuring your pup’s tail keeps wagging with joy.
Puppy vaccinations
Your puppy’s vaccination course should begin from 8 weeks of age. This will give them optimal protection when exposed to some nasty infectious diseases including:
- Parvovirus
- Canine distemper
- Leptospirosis
- Hepatitis
- Kennel cough
Parasite prevention
Nurture is passionate about people protecting their pets and families by using parasite prevention. Not only can parasites cause infection, disease and discomfort, they can also infest your home or affect those with a weakened immune system. Talk to our team about the best combination of flea, worm, and tick products for your puppy.
Neutering
When it comes to neutering, our experienced team use the most advanced techniques and equipment. Your pet’s comfort and healing is paramount, which is why we offer less invasive keyhole spays for female dogs where possible, which promote reduced discomfort and scarring, and a faster recovery.
Before we book any neutering procedure, we will see you and your puppy for a consultation. This is where we can run through the surgical procedure, how they will be cared for, what aftercare they will need, and a perform a thorough examination, including a blood test if required, to ensure your puppy has no underlying health conditions that could affect their recovery.
Microchipping
Dog microchipping is a legal requirement and as such, your puppy should be microchipped by the breeder before you collect them. Our team can help you check your puppy’s microchip and update your details on the central microchipping database. Having a microchipped puppy will give them the best chance of being reunited with you should you become separated.
Nutrition & dental care
During these early days, your puppy’s nutrition is very important as it promotes good all-round health and wellbeing. Ensuring they receive the necessary nutrients will help your puppy to thrive. Whilst they are young, establish a healthy dental care routine with your puppy. This will help to look after their teeth as they start to mature.
Our nurses are happy to help with puppy care. Whether you need nutritional advice, a demonstration of dental brushing, or weight and exercise tips. Connect with us so we can support you and your puppy.
Enrichment & exercise
Puppy happiness, through enriching experiences, socialisation, playtime and exercise, goes hand in hand with their wellbeing. In the first few months, you will need to limit your puppy’s walks to what is recommended for their age and breed. We can offer guidance on everything your puppy will need.
Puppy School
We run a comprehensive course with an experienced vet nurse (RVN) and a certified behaviourist to advise on puppy socialisation as it is integral to a dog’s behaviour for life.
Puppies who have been socialised effectively in their early weeks are far less likely to react negatively to new situations, noises, people, dogs and animals than their counterparts, who have not had these important early experiences. A well socialised puppy is far more likely to integrate easily into your life, therefore making your life together much more enjoyable and rewarding. Ask our team about booking a place at Puppy School.
