Transparency, Trust and Your Pet’s Care – What We Already Do at Nurture
You may have seen recent news about the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation into the UK veterinary sector. This review has focused on improving transparency, helping pet owners better understand pricing, treatment options and the structure of veterinary businesses.
At Nurture, we welcome these developments — because much of what is being proposed reflects how we already believe veterinary care should be delivered.
Independence and transparency
A key focus of the CMA review is ensuring clients understand who owns their veterinary practice, particularly as large corporate groups now dominate much of the UK market.
We are proud to remain an independent veterinary practice, this means Nurture is family owned by Charlie & Sasha Moore, we both personally work in and on the business where we place pets & staff first. (not shareholders)
Clear and honest pricing
One of the key findings from the CMA is that pet owners want clearer information about costs, including published price lists and itemised bills.
We have always aimed to be open and transparent about pricing. Our team takes time to:
- Provide clear estimates before treatment
- Explain different options and associated costs
- Ensure you understand what is included in your bill
This allows you to make informed decisions about your pet’s care, without unexpected surprises.
- We will be publishing further price lists online in the next 3- 6 months.
- Providing invoices automatically rather than on request.
Choice and informed decision-making
The CMA has also highlighted the importance of helping clients understand all available treatment options, including choices around medications and ongoing care.
At Nurture, we have always delivered & discussed this and will continue to do so. You can trust our advice. We do not incentivise our vets on decisions.
Fair prescribing and medication guidance
The CMA has also proposed changes around prescription fees and ensuring clients are aware of alternative ways to obtain medication. We have set prescription fees already at the recommended amount of £21. We are reviewing our medication guidance to accommodate choice.
Putting pets and people first
Ultimately, the CMA investigation is about improving trust, transparency and fairness across the profession.
At Nurture, these values have always been at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s taking time to explain a diagnosis, offering clear pricing, or simply being there when you need reassurance — our focus is always on providing high-quality, compassionate care.
Corporate values have eroded the long-standing trust the veterinary profession had achieved. We hope you find us unchanged in our core values and as we support the next generation of vets and nurses in this ever-changing world, please rest assured we will do our very best to provide the best service we can.
