Cat Friendly Clinics

At Nurture, we understand that visiting the vets can be a very different experience for cats compared to dogs. Many cats find unfamiliar environments, noises and smells stressful, which is why we are so pleased to introduce our Cat Friendly Clinics across both our Wells and Weston sites. 

As a Gold ISFM-accredited Cat Friendly Clinic, we are committed to providing care that is specifically designed around the needs of cats. Our extended clinics are a natural next step in that journey — creating a calmer, more tailored experience that benefits both you and your cat.

A calmer, more relaxed experience

From 7th April, our Wells branch now offers Cat Only Clinics every weekday, based in our purpose-built Nurse Hub. These clinics include a separate cat-only entrance, dedicated parking and a welcoming receptionist, helping to reduce stress from the moment you arrive.

At our Weston branch, we are also running a weekly Cat Only Clinic every Thursday from 11am to lunchtime, ensuring clients at both sites can access a more feline-focused service.

During these clinics, the focus is entirely on cats. We minimise noise, avoid exposure to dogs and use gentle, feline-friendly handling techniques throughout the visit. 

Our team also make a conscious effort to change clothing between species, reducing scent triggers, and with no dogs present in these sessions, both smell and noise stressors are significantly reduced.

Cats are highly sensitive to their environment. Stress can not only make visits more difficult, but can also affect clinical findings such as heart rate, blood pressure and behaviour.

By creating a quieter, more predictable environment, we can:

Our team is trained specifically in feline behaviour and handling, and we continue to develop our approach with input from our dedicated cat advocates.

Designed with cats in mind

From the layout of our clinical spaces to the way appointments are run, every detail is considered. Cat-only waiting areas, calm consulting rooms and a consistent, gentle approach all help to create a more positive experience.

We also take practical steps during these clinics — for example, at Weston we ask dog owners to briefly leave dogs in the car when visiting reception during clinic times, helping us maintain a peaceful environment for our feline patients.
